Juvederm Procedure

Juvederm works with small injections in the treatment areas by increasing volume in the facial tissue with hyaluronic acid. This is a natural substance that the body produces to make collagen that plumps the skin.

As you age, the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen drops, which can make the face look hollow and wrinkled.

Your healthcare professional will mark areas of the face that will be treated. Then, they will inject the filler into the target area. Next, they will massage the treatment area to ensure the product is evenly distributed and to reduce swelling.

If you are concerned that the wrinkles and lines in your face are of varying degrees, don’t worry. There are different Juvederm strengths that are used depending on how deep the lines and wrinkles are.

The Juvederm procedure usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how many areas you have treated. Most people return to work the same day.

Juvederm Benefits

Another benefit of Juvederm is it encourages the body to produce collagen on its own. So when the dermal filler is eventually absorbed by your body, the lines and wrinkles in your face may not be as noticeable as they were.

Other benefits of Juvederm are:

  • Perfect for face contouring: Not every dermal filler does as good of a job as Juvederm. Some products only provide enough volume to make the skin tiger and fill in the deepest wrinkles. But Juvederm fills in lost volume as well as deep wrinkles.
  • Produces more collagen: Juvederm is one of the fillers that contains ingredients that the body makes. It contains hyaluronic acid and encourages the body to make more collagen on its own.
  • Fast and easy: Dermal fillers such as Juvederm are fast and easy because no surgery is required, and recovery is also fast.
  • Lasts a long time: Juvederm encourages your body to make more collagen, so the injections can last longer – up to two years. This means you don’t need as many follow-up appointments.
  • Works well with other procedures: Many patients have Juvederm injections combined with laser treatments or chemical peels.

Ideal Candidates For Juvederm

The best candidates for Juvederm injections are people who have fine lines and wrinkles in the face that are not due to brittle skin. Skin that was damaged by sun exposure may need other treatments, such as laser resurfacing.

Anyone who gets Juvederm injections also needs to be in good health and not have any major health problems. Tell your doctor about any medications you take before you have this procedure.

People who have the best results from Juvederm are usually in their 30s and 40s, although anyone over the age of 18 can have this treatment.

Juvederm Risks And Complications

Before you have Juvederm treatments, talk to your doctor about what you want to achieve with the procedure. Juvederm treatments are minimally invasive, so they are often done the same day as the initial consultation.

There isn’t much preparation needed for Juvederm injections. You should not take medications that thin the blood a few days before the treatment, such as ibuprofen and aspirin. Some supplements also can cause bleeding problems, such as St. John’s wort.

Also, don’t drink alcohol for a few days before the procedure, and smoking will delay the healing process. If you avoid all these things, you will avoid bruising and recover faster.

Juvederm Risks And Complications

Having Juvederm injections is safe and effective, but most patients will experience minor swelling and bruising. Other frequent side effects are:

  • Tenderness
  • Redness
  • Bumps and lumps
  • Itching
  • Minor pain

Most of these side effects will subside after one or two weeks.

Rarely, more serious side effects can happen. An unskilled and untrained provider may accidentally inject Juvederm into a blood vessel, which can be a serious health risk.

Other rare side effects include permanent scarring, blindness, stroke, and blurred vision. That’s why it’s vital to choose a healthcare provider who is skilled with Juvederm injections.

Many healthcare providers say injecting Juvederm near the eyes carries a higher risk of problems because of the thin, sensitive skin in that area. Some say the best places for Juvederm to be injected are in the nasolabial folds and cheeks.

Juvederm Recovery

Juvéderm New JerseyJuvederm injections are a minimally invasive procedure, so recovery is rapid. But you should avoid strenuous workouts, exposure to the sun, and wearing makeup for at least a day. Following these tips will ensure the best results.

Most patients notice a plumper face with fewer lines and wrinkles right away. Juvederm encourages the body to make more collagen, so the results can last one or two years.

To have the best results, be sure to follow these guidelines:

  • Don’t have spa procedures such as facials for a few weeks after Juvederm injections.
  • Don’t tan or lie in the sun for two or three weeks.
  • Avoid hot baths and saunas because they can increase swelling.
  • Don’t touch the area where Juvederm was injected for a few days.
  • Wearing makeup is ok after a day, but don’t press too firmly on the treated area.
  • Try to avoid extreme facial expressions for a few hours so the Juvederm doesn’t change position before it is absorbed by the tissues.

Complementary Procedures

If you have Juvederm injections, you may think about other cosmetic procedures on the face to transform your appearance. Having more than one procedure at a time lets you have all recovery done at once and not split up over separate procedures.

Popular procedures that patients sometimes choose with Juvederm injections include:

Juvederm FAQ

The most common questions about Juvederm injections are highlighted below:

What Should You Not Do Before Having Juvederm?

About two days before your Juvederm treatment, you should not use topical skin creams for anti-aging. These products usually contain retinol, glycolic acid, and retinoids. These may irritate the skin.

You also should not take medications that thin the blood, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Smoking and drinking alcohol also should be avoided for at least a week before your session.

How Long Does It Take Juvederm To Work In The Cheeks?

Most patients will see results from Juvederm in the cheeks after two or three weeks. It takes this long to fully settle into the skin and other tissues.

Does Drinking Water Help Juvederm Work?

Yes. Drinking a lot of water keeps the skin hydrated and enhances Juvederm’s effects. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water per day before and after your Juvederm injections.

Keeping your skin as hydrated as possible is always a good idea.

What If I Have Lumps And Bumps In My Face After Juvederm?

This is a possible side effect of Juvederm injections, but lumps and bumps usually resolve on their own after a day or two.

The day after your injections, you can gently massage any lump or bump in the skin. If it lingers, call your doctor.

Can I Drink Coffee After Juvederm?

You should avoid caffeine for at least two days after having Juvederm injections. This can interfere with how Juvederm interacts with your body.

What Makes Juvederm Metabolize Faster?

One of the benefits of Juvederm is it usually lasts longer than Botox and other dermal fillers. It’s possible for Juvederm to last up to two years in some patients.

However, you should try to stay out of the midday sun if you want the injections to last as long as possible. Avoid the sun between 10 am and 4 pm and wear SPF 30 or better sunscreen when you are in the sun.

Should I Use Ice After Juvederm To Decrease Swelling?

You can use ice on the treated area for a day or two after the injections. Also, make sure you don’t exercise for at least one or two days after the treatment.

Exercising too vigorously after Juvederm injections can make the product migrate.

How Can I Make My Juvederm Injections Last Longer?

The good news is Juvederm usually lasts between one and two years! And there are things you can do to make it last that long:

  • Don’t stay in the sun for long. UV light dries the skin and makes it age faster.
  • Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and plenty of unprocessed foods.
  • Use high-quality skincare products.
  • Drink plenty of water every day.
  • Don’t exercise for a few days after Juvederm injections; this can make the body absorb the product before it settles in.

How Long Will I Have Swelling After Juvederm?

Most patients have swelling after Juvederm injections that peaks within one or two weeks. After the swelling fades, you will see the final results.

But many patients find the swelling is insigificant and go back to work the same day. Moreover, Juvderm’s effects are subtle so most people probably won’t notice anything different.

Can Juvederm Migrate?

Yes. It’s possible for Juvederm and other dermal fillers to migrate to other parts of the body. This can happen before the filler has bonded with the tissues. To avoid this problem, make sure you don’t bend over or lie down for several hours after the treatment.

How Long Will It Take Juvederm To Settle?

It can take up to 14 days for Juvederm to fully settle in. For most patients, the product lasts between six and 12 months.

Most patients like the results, but if you want Juvederm removed, it can be dissolved with a special enzyme that your healthcare provider can inject.

Is Juvederm Better Than Restylane?

These fillers have different strengths and uses. Restylane is grainier and more cohesive than Juvederm, while the latter is smoother.

Because Juvederm is smooth, it may be better for fine lines and wrinkles in small facial areas.

Is Juvederm Better Than Botox?

Both products are effective. However, Juvederm works faster and lasts months longer. Botox may take three or four days to take effect and results fade after three or four months.

Botox requires more follow-up treatments, but you also will need touch-ups with Juvederm.
