Breast Implant Revision Cost & Surgical Options
Written by Dr. Smita Ramanadham. Posted in Blog.
Patients who enter our practice for breast implant revision consultation appointments frequently have questions in two main areas: breast implant revision cost and implant revision surgical options. They want to know what their choices are in terms of revising their current implants and how much each option will cost.
Below, we will review both topics in turn, while also emphasizing the importance of finishing up your online research by booking an in-person consultation appointment.
Breast Implant Revision Cost
The truth is, we cannot provide accurate online cost estimates for breast revision surgery, breast implant removal — or any other cosmetic procedure. Why?
Simply put, the cost of breast implant revision varies so greatly from surgeon to surgeon and patient to patient that it’s not worth it to throw a number out that won’t be accurate in the end. From past experience, if we have mentioned price ranges related to plastic surgery online, we have patients later contact us and tell us that they expected their surgery to cost X amount “as they saw online”.
This only makes sense. But in far too many cases, the numbers don’t match, and patients are naturally unhappy. That is, sometimes, a patient will simply have a unique situation that results in a higher cost for surgery, and when this doesn’t match our estimates online, things get confusing.
We will, however, mention that the following factors are what primarily influence the cost of breast implant revision:
- Surgeon’s fees (including fees for consultation and follow up appointments)
- Anesthesiologist’s fees
- Surgical facility fees
- The scope of surgery
- Whether additional procedures are added on or combined
- Aftercare expenses (use-at-home products, compression garments, prescription medications, etc.)
We also want to underline the fact that booking a consultation appointment with Dr. Smita is the best way to get an accurate estimate for the cost of your surgery.
Breast Implant Revision Surgical Options
Breast implant revision surgery (also known simply as breast revision surgery or breast augmentation revision) is a surprisingly popular procedure. While many patients are very happy with the initial breast implants they get with a first-time breast augmentation, it’s not uncommon for them to later change their mind on their desired breast size or shape.
Other reasons, too, can lead patients to seek a breast implant revision procedure. For example, some patients may struggle with capsular contracture, implant displacement, or a rupture. Others may simply not want breast implants at all any longer.
No matter the reason you’ve chosen to remove your current implants, you do have some play with regard to how you want to complete your surgery. Here are the major options you have to choose from:
Remove and replace breast implants (breast implant replacement)
One of the most commonly chosen options for breast implant revision involves removal of your current breast implants and replacement with new implants. Patients may have had a rupture, capsular contracture, or another medical issue necessitating new implants. Or, they may have decided they want bigger, smaller, or differently shaped implants.
Remove breast implants and undergo breast lift surgery
It’s also possible to combine breast implant revision with a breast lift. You may be finished with having breast implants altogether but still want to give your breasts a more youthful and perkier look, which a breast lift surgery can accommodate.
Remove breast implants and undergo a fat transfer augmentation
Fat transfer breast augmentation is another option. During this procedure, your plastic surgeon will remove excess fat from your abdomen with liposuction. They will then process this fat outside the body and transfer it to the breasts to create more volume.
You won’t get quite the size increase that’s possible with implants (usually only up to one additional cup size). But it can be a good solution to loss of volume after breast implant removal.
Remove breast implants only
Lastly, some patients simply want to have their breast implants removed, and they don’t desire any additional plastic surgery.
FAQ: Breast Implant Revision Surgery Cost
Is breast revision more expensive than augmentation?
Sometimes, yes. Breast implant revision tends to be more complicated and challenging when compared with initial breast augmentation surgery, so breast revision surgery cost is often more expensive. Still, your ultimate breast augmentation or breast revision cost really depends on your procedure details overall. Book a consultation to learn more.
How much does breast implant revision to go bigger cost?
Many patients wish to increase the size of their breast implants and want to know how much their revision surgery will cost. We wish we could offer a detailed cost estimate without seeing you in person, but because every surgery and every patient is unique, we recommend that you schedule a consultation appointment to get an accurate estimate on the cost of your surgery.
